As senior executives progress further up the corporate ladder, having some level of boardroom experience becomes important to prepare them for greater executive responsibilities. This experience could be found by becoming a Trustee or a Non-Executive Director but Smarter Networking are now offering a new way to gain some real commercial board level experience.
We broker personal development opportunities for senior executive employees from top ranking organisations to join the boards of non-conflicting AIM listed, privately owned and SME companies as ‘boardroom apprentices’ to gain real commercial boardroom experience.
Following a very thorough interview, we match the senior executive to a non-conflicting board seeking their level of expertise and specific commercial / market experience and skillsets. As a ‘boardroom apprentice’ the senior executives will attend board meetings, read board papers and when invited, offer observations and comment. This service allows senior executives to network across industries, to influence, to contribute, to learn and to listen.

- Heather recently hosted a lunch ” Women on Boards ” for our WILD network event which explored the other options open to senior women other than the elusive position on the Board. I would highly recommend Heather and look forward to working with her this year.Julie Carruthers, Head of Operations, Global Broking at ICAP
- Heather recently matched one of our Directors to an Advisory Board role. She was fantastic – he spoke highly of her coaching, she and her team prepared him well and found a position that not only met his’ and the matched organisation’s needs, but the pairing also holds potential for real challenge and innovation.Andrea Tully, Executive and Talent Development Manager at Nationwide Building Society
